Experience an exciting slice of military history at Nothe Fort on Sunday 8 March 2026, when the Nothe Fort Artillery bring Victorian-era drill and cannon firing to life. This free-with-admission display runs from 12:00pm until 3:00pm and offers a dynamic look at historic artillery in action.
Step into the Parade Ground and enjoy live demonstrations by the Nothe Fort Garrison The Dorsetshire Regimentin full period uniform. Watch musketry and cannon drills, learn about soldier duties in the 19th century, and soak up the atmosphere as the team recreate authentic artillery procedures.
Live Firing Demonstrations – See muskets and cannons fired in sequence during scheduled sessions.
Historic Drill Displays – The regiment performs classic Victorian routines that bring the era to life.
Educational Insight – Volunteers explain what life was like for artillery soldiers and what roles they performed.
Please note: The gunfire can be loud, so ear protection is available to borrow from Fort staff on the parade ground for anyone who needs it.
