If this weekend needed a soundtrack, Weymouth and Portland seem to have taken that personally.

From Friday through to Easter Monday, there are at least 36 live music events happening across pubs, bars and venues in the area, with everything from acoustic sets and pub bands to DJs, karaoke, open mics and blues sessions.

Some weekends give you one or two decent options.
This one gives you a genuine chance of accidentally ending up at three.

Whether you’re planning a full night out, looking for somewhere to stop after dinner, or just want to see what’s on nearby, here’s your WeyPort Gig Guide for the weekend.

Friday 3 April

Friday gets going quickly, with a proper mix of live music, open mic energy and Good Friday atmosphere across town.

A few Friday picks

  • Vintage Boss WeekenderCentenary Club
  • Good Friday DJ and Fish Fry!Chesil Beach Cafe
  • Open Mic NightDry Dock
  • Rob DavisThe Tin Cat
  • Starter CharlieThe Waterloo
  • Stacey LouTurks Head Inn
  • Moroi GypsiesThe Royal Portland Arms
  • Moon DogHardy’s Hophouse
  • The 144sFinns
  • The 5 O’Clock HeroesThe Tin Cat
  • The LeggomenThe Nook Cocktail Club

There’s a nice spread on Friday between places where you can settle in properly and places where you might just “pop in for one” and stay longer than planned.

Saturday 4 April

Saturday is, frankly, a bit ridiculous in the best possible way.

If you like wandering between venues and seeing where the night goes, this is your evening. There’s a lot on, and plenty of it starts to feel like one of those nights where the whole town has collectively decided to go out.

Saturday line-up

  • Jamie Pinnow LIVEThe Duke of Cornwall
  • Balance of Power – Acoustic SetThe Tin Cat
  • Rob DavisSailors Return
  • Vinyl RevivalThe Kings Arms
  • Convoy Cabaret – Portland Social Club
  • Dr BeatrootThe Royal Oak
  • Stacey LouThe Old Castle Hotel
  • The SticketsThe Fat Badger
  • Starter CharlieHardy’s Hophouse
  • Guns of NavaroneThe Gloucester
  • Poole VigilantesFinns
  • Voodoo EconomicsThe Tin Cat

If your ideal Saturday involves live music, a few familiar faces and a pub that’s just loud enough to feel like something’s happening, you should be well covered.

Sunday 5 April

Sunday doesn’t exactly calm down.

If anything, it shifts into that slightly looser Sunday session territory where everything feels a bit easier and people are more willing to stay out later than they probably should.

Sunday sessions

  • The Dolmen AcousticHardy’s Hophouse
  • Karen’s Fun ClubThe Duke of Cornwall
  • Sunday SessionsChapelhay Tavern
  • Sunday Live Lounge: Jamie PinnowThe Belvedere
  • Karen Melanie KayThe Duke of Cornwall
  • The Return of The Blues Jam SessionThe Tin Cat
  • Rob DavisThe Bridge Inn
  • SHAKESPEAROSFinns

Sunday is a good one for acoustic sets, easygoing drinks and slightly extending the weekend without fully admitting that’s what you’re doing.

Monday 6 April – Easter Monday

And if you’re still going by Monday, there’s no need to pretend otherwise.

Easter Monday still has a few live options if you want one last outing before real life returns.

Easter Monday music

  • Live Music Easter MondayChesil Beach Cafe
  • Karen Melanie KayThe Duke of Cornwall
  • Rob DavisOcean Breeze Bar
  • Jamie’s Jam SeshThe Kings Arms

A tidy little bank holiday landing.

Best Places to Catch Live Music This Weekend

If you’re looking for venues with more than one thing happening across the weekend, these are worth keeping an eye on:

The Tin Cat

One of the busiest spots this weekend, with:

  • Rob Davis
  • The 5 O’Clock Heroes
  • Balance of Power
  • Voodoo Economics
  • The Return of The Blues Jam Session

Hardy’s Hophouse

A solid run of:

  • Moon Dog
  • Starter Charlie
  • The Dolmen Acoustic

The Duke of Cornwall

Busy across Sunday and Monday with:

  • Jamie Pinnow
  • Karen’s Fun Club
  • Karen Melanie Kay

Finns

Another strong weekend line-up:

  • The 144s
  • Poole Vigilantes
  • SHAKESPEAROS

If you like choosing your night based on venue atmosphere rather than artist alone, those are probably good places to start.

A Good Weekend for Following the Noise

What’s nice about this weekend is that it doesn’t feel like one big headline event.
It feels more like music quietly spilling out all over the place.

A pub here. A harbour bar there. A singer setting up in the corner. A band soundchecking while people are still deciding whether they’re staying.

That’s usually where Weymouth and Portland are at their best.

So if you’ve been meaning to get out a bit more, this is a decent weekend to start.

Something good is happening.
