Last night, Houseworks proudly hosted a community arts exhibition at the Littlemoor Children’s Centre – and over 50 people turned out to celebrate the creativity of our local young people!
This joyful event marked the culmination of a year-long youth arts programme, with 82 young people from Weymouth and Portland taking part over the past 16 months. The programme supported young artists to work towards their Arts Award, in collaboration with professional creatives commissioned through Houseworks – all of whom are based in Weymouth and Portland, including several TOC Launchpad artists and applicants.
🖼️ Projects on display included:
– MySpaceMyPlace documentary photography
– Printmaking with Caro Lester and Zara Signac
– Theatre workshops with Benjamin Ridge
– Helping Hands clay and movement project for b-side Fringe 2025
– Surrealist artworks exhibited at Venue 22 (Open For Art)
– Architecture and community design project with Newmakers Bureau at Weymouth College Gallery
The Littlemoor Children’s Centre was transformed into a vibrant gallery space, thanks to the incredible efforts of local families, businesses, and artists – with parents even helping to build the exhibition stands!
🧡 Huge thanks to everyone who supported the event – including Fiona, who ran a beautiful hands-on art activity that brought the whole room together.
This programme highlighted the power of creativity in one of the area’s most deprived communities, and we’re proud to have promoted TOC’s wider community offer throughout the evening.
📸 Keep an eye out for coverage in the Dorset Echo soon – and thank you to everyone who helped make it such a powerful celebration of community, creativity, and young people’s voices.
