About this event

Richard co-founded Context one Heritage & Archaeology nearly 30 years ago, based in North Dorset. Most of the archaeological work is for developers on commercial schemes, mostly across Dorset and Somerset, although increasingly Richard has been involved in community projects. He has recently become a Trustee of the newly formed Dorset Archaeology & Heritage Forum and he also sits on the committee for the Special Interest Group for Community Archaeology at the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
Richard says that he is proud to have a long-standing archaeological involvement in Weymouth and is delighted to be digging in the town once again in 2026.
The talk will draw together the developing archaeological evidence for Weymouth and set this against the known historical narrative of both Melcombe Regis and Weymouth amidst changing fortunes for both towns during the medieval period.
