Bank Holiday Weekend in Weymouth & Portland: Karaoke, Wrestling, Pirate Adventures and a Lot of “Just One Drink”

There’s something about a Bank Holiday weekend that changes the rules slightly.

People suddenly agree to things they normally wouldn’t. Thursday night turns into Friday morning. Someone suggests karaoke “as a joke” and four hours later nobody can feel their feet. Plans become less structured. The weather gets checked every fourteen minutes. The phrase “might as well” does a lot of heavy lifting.

Across Weymouth and Portland this weekend, there’s a genuinely huge mix of things happening, whether you want live music, family days out, sea air, theatre, food, wrestling, yoga, markets or somewhere to accidentally stay until closing time.

Friday kicks things off with everything from Sunrise Yoga Breakfasts at Bennetts Water Gardens to country favourites Hooked on Boots at The Wyke Smugglers, open mic nights, karaoke, tribute acts and plenty of pubs filling up a bit earlier than usual.

Saturday feels particularly packed. There’s Fayre in the Square down by the harbour, WykeFest, skate sessions, Dorset Art Weeks events, Pirate Family Fun at Nothe Fort and Big League Wrestling at Weymouth Pavilion for anyone who enjoys their weekends with folding chairs and dramatic entrances.

Live music is absolutely everywhere across the weekend too. You’ll find bands, acoustic sets and DJs spread across pubs and venues including The Tin Cat, Finns, The Bridge Inn, The Gloucester and plenty more.

Sunday slows down slightly… in theory. There’s Park Yoga at Lodmoor Country Park, spiritual sessions at The Upwey Wishing Well, bingo, live music, theatre shows and the sort of afternoon pub sessions that accidentally become full evenings.

Then Monday arrives with that slightly strange Bank Holiday feeling where nobody fully knows what day it is anymore. There’s still loads happening though, including family theatre at the Pavilion, Coastwatch Open Day at Portland Bill, quizzes, yoga sessions and more live music to round things off.

Whether you’re planning your weekend properly or just seeing where the day takes you, there’s a lot happening across Weymouth and Portland over the next few days.
